On 10 October 2016, an armed robbery took place at the satellite office of the Mbombela Local Municipality, Riverside. A cash-in-transit (CIT) vehicle of the G4S Security Company was collecting money when four suspects driving a Chevy Spark were waiting for them.
According to information, the security officials were walking to their vehicle when three of the suspects robbed them of a firearm as well as an empty money bag.
One of the guards managed to run to the CIT vehicle where he took a firearm and fired shots at the suspects. One of the suspects is believed to have been shot as he fell to the ground and had to be dragged into the vehicle by his accomplices.
The suspects fled from the scene in their vehicle in an unknown direction, taking the empty money bag and the firearm with them.
