The police are investigating and have launched a manhunt for suspects following shooting incidents in which a man was fatally shot in Sabie yesterday, Tuesday 13 February 2024 at about 19:00, meanwhile a taxi driver sustained gunshots wounds after being shot in Kriel last week on 08 February 2024.

According to information, police responded to a shooting incident. On arrival at the mentioned address, the victim was already taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. A murder case was opened and preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was shot several times.

No one has been arrested so far but the investigation continues.

In a separate incident, a 37-year-old taxi driver narrowly escaped death when he too was shot several times at his rented room in Kriel.

According to a report, the victim was asleep when he heard some strange noise next to the window where he parked the minibus taxi.

He then opened the curtain to check and it was during this time when he saw four men and one of these men was allegedly holding a firearm. It is said that the suspects immediately fired some shots indiscriminately. As a result, the victim was shot and sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

The police were alerted about the incident and the victim was taken to the nearest hospital and he is fighting for his life. No arrest has been made so far.

Meanwhile the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has strongly condemned the shooting incidents and vowed that Police will work hard to ensure that perpetrators thereof are put behind bars. “We will not rest until we arrest the suspects as well as recover firearms and remove these weapons from the wrong hands,” said the General.
