72 Men arrested for illegal mining, explosives, Pilgrims Rest

An operation conducted by police at Pilgrims Rest in conjunction with the Lydenburg K9 Unit yielded positive results as 72 men were arrested on Friday, 23 April 2021, for different criminal activities.

The suspects aged between 18 and 45, are facing charges amongst others for being in possession of explosives, possession of gold bearing material as well as contravening of the Immigration Act.

They are due to appear before the Pilgrims Rest Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 26 April 2021.

The police management has applauded the sterling work done by the team in organising and executing the operation successfully.
