The FF Plus will table a motion during the next council meeting of the Mbombela Local Municipality to hold the Executive Mayor, Sibongile Makushe, the municipal manager, Wiseman Khumalo, and the head of every single guilty department accountable for failing to implement a total of 496 council decisions since 2016.

If they do not address these matters at once, the FF Plus will demand that disciplinary steps must be taken against them.

The Mbombela Municipality serves, among others, Mbombela/Nelspruit, Barberton, Hazyview, Kaapschehoop, Skukuza and White River.

The list of unexecuted council decisions, compiled by the FF Plus, includes 93 by the Departments of City Planning and Development, 86 by Financial Management and 63 by the Council Office.

Other departments that failed to execute council decisions are the Departments of Water and Sanitation, Energy and Public Works.

These decisions include, among other things, that overtime payments to municipal workers, which currently amount to about R14 million per month, must be stopped; that privately owned vacant lots must be maintained by the relevant owners, or that the Municipality will issue a fine to the owners if they fail to do so; and that the Municipality’s irregular and fruitless expenditure, amounting to approximately R500 million, must urgently be investigated.

Decisions made by the council are meant to benefit the people and must, therefore, be executed as soon as possible.

It is unthinkable that hundreds of critical decisions have been dragging on for so long on this level.

This once again serves as proof that the ANC-controlled Mbombela council does not govern in a way that benefits the people, but that serves their own interests.

Mbombela deserves better than the ANC.
