A 45-year-old suspect was arrested on Sunday, 24 May 2026, on charges of murder and attempted murder following a shooting incident in Vaalbank Extension.
According to police, officers on duty received a report of a shooting at approximately 21:30 on Saturday, 23 May 2026. Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered the body of a 36-year-old woman with gunshot wounds to the upper body. Paramedics certified the victim deceased at the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect approached the deceased, an argument allegedly ensued, and the suspect subsequently drew a firearm and shot the woman. A 34-year-old man who was in the vicinity at the time was also shot and sustained injuries.
Acting on information gathered during the investigation, police located and arrested the suspect while he was hiding in a shack in the Kameelpoort area. A licensed firearm, with no ammunition in its possession, was recovered and seized from the suspect.
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Mbibane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 May 2026, to face formal charges of murder and attempted murder.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police have appealed to members of the community with additional information to come forward.
