Three suspects aged between 25 and 30 were arrested on Tuesday 14 March 2023 and charged for dealing in drugs after being allegedly found trafficking suspected Mandrax tablets to the estimated value of about R150 000 in Balfour.

According to the report, police conducted an intelligence driven operation after receiving information about a white Toyota Conquest travelling from Nigel in the Gauteng Province and further details indicated that the vehicle was heading to Balfour.

The members responded swiftly and the said vehicle was spotted with three occupants inside where members ordered its driver to stop. This was followed by a search whereby 3 000 suspected mandrax tablets were found inside a subwoofer speaker.

That was when the three were apprehended and charged accordingly.

They are expected to have their first court appearance in the Balfour Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 16 March 2023 facing the said charges.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi has welcomed the arrest of the suspects and reassured the public that police are working around the clock to ensure that the streets are drug free. “No peddler will be allowed to terrorize communities and it is the duty of the police in partnership with members of the public to ensure that there is no free ride for criminal activities in the society. We urge people to continue in providing information about crime to the authorities” said the General.
