A 21-year-old mother of three children is being sought by police on an allegation of abandoning and neglecting her children in alleged exchange to leisure at local taverns in Shatale near Bushbuckridge. The woman left the minors unattended on Sunday 20 September 2020.

Her three little children aged one, three and five were left in the house to fend for themselves and their mother indicated that she was going to buy groceries. Good citizens became concerned when it became dark without her returning home. They then called the woman, checking what might have happened to her but she informed them that she was enjoying herself at a local tavern. She also allayed fears from the concerned community by telling them that the children were with their father at home.

After the community saw the children lingering around without their mother, they then alerted police about the incident and the police swiftly responded to the complaint. Upon arrival, they found the kids alone without any adult supervision. Police asked the neighbours to assist with contact details of the kids’ mother but when they called, her cellphone went unanswered.

Police immediately opened a case of child neglect and have called on anyone who might have information on the whereabouts of the mother. Currently all the children have been kept for safety by a certain man she has one child with.

Meanwhile police are looking for Zinhle Mathebula whom it is believed can assist with the investigation. Anyone who might know her whereabouts or any information about Mathebula, is requested to call Detective Sergeant Macro Makwela at 0726132576, or call the Crime Stop number on 08600 1011, alternatively a tip-off can be given on the MySAPS App that can be downloaded to any smartphone.

All information will be treated with confidentiality and callers may opt to remain anonymous.

The police have since condemned the incident and a call has been made to the community to take care of their children especially now with incidents of crimes directed at children.
