25 Suspects were arrested during Operation Shanela in Dientjie on Saturday, 30 December 2023.
During their arrest, a number of illegal mining equipment were seized and these including 184 bags of gold bearing material, 36 phenduka’s, 20 phenduka stands, 14 electric motors, nine gas bottles, a generator and a VW Golf which is believed to have also been used in the commission of crime.
A total of 21 undocumented immigrants were arrested meanwhile two suspects were nabbed for illegal mining activities as well as one suspect who was arrested for dealing in dagga after he being found with a refuse bag half filled with dagga.
All arrested suspects are expected to appear at the Dientjie Periodical Court today, Tuesday 02 January 2024.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, has commended members for their continuous efforts in cleaning the streets of the province.
