The murder of a 19-year-old man, Sibongiseni Sithole on 11 June 2023 is somehow believed to have resulted in the torching of a house belonging to one of two men suspected of murder.

The two alleged suspects, aged 25 and 28 were rescued from an angry mob by the Police in Delmas.

The grandfather of the murdered victim reportedly informed police that he was at home in the morning of that fateful Sunday 11 June 2023 when some people came to his house with shocking news, then took him to Botleng RDP houses and upon arrival they pointed to him the lifeless body of his grandson.

The Police as well as the paramedics were alerted about the incident and the young man was unfortunately certified dead at the scene. Police discovered that the victim sustained head injuries and stab wounds to his upper body.

A murder case has been opened.

Hardly two hours later, after attending the murder scene, police received a call about an angry mob assaulting two victims.

Police finally managed to rescue the two men and an ambulance was summoned.

The 25-year-old man was taken to hospital for medical treatment after sustaining some injuries and is currently still under police guard.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the two are suspects to the murder of Sithole, hence the other man (28) reportedly sustained minor injuries but he was locked up and charged for murder.

Police had a busy day as when they were of an idea that the situation was under control, another complaint came forth from the same place where the duo were snatched.

This time police found a house up in flames.

According to information, it is alleged that the house belongs to one of the murder suspects. It is further alleged that there were blood stains on the door and windows as well as substances suspected to be traditional medicines.

The two suspects are expected to appear at the Delmas District’s Court soon.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela condemned the gruesome murder and is confident that the investigation team will get to the bottom of the matter. The General further urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands because in the process, certain crucial evidence could be destroyed when people burn houses or structures that Police considers as critical places to build up strong cases against the accused persons.
