2 Life sentences for murder of police officer and his sister, Mbombela

The Mbombela High Court convicted the accused Rassie Hlabirwa Nkune on two (2) counts of murder on a police officer and his sister, which occurred in May 2022 and sentenced him to two life imprisonment on each count of murder on the 18 May 2023.

The sentence follows the incident that happened on 15 May 2022 where the suspect arrived at his girlfriend’s, Sergeant Marcia Mazibuko driving a blue BMW.

The accused had a quarrel with his girlfriend and took out the firearm.

Sergeant Mazibuko ran out of the house and got into the accused’s vehicle.

The accused followed her and shot at her multiple times through the car window.

The accused then ran back into the house where he shot Pretty Mazibuko, who was the police officer’s sister and fled the scene. The two victims were taken to the clinic, where they were both pronounced dead.

On 15 August 2022, the accused Hlabirwa Rassie Nkune (36) was arrested in Springs for a separate murder of another woman which he committed on 6 August 2022 in Sundra, Mpumalanga

The accused pleaded guilty on the two counts of murder and was sentenced.
