Atif Ali (27) and Subuj Miah (30) were remanded in custody by the Nelspruit District Court on Tuesday 27 August 2019. It is alleged that the two males recruited and trafficked four victims who are currently being kept at a place of safety after they were freed from captivity in joint operation by the Hawks Mpumalanga, Crime Intelligence and Nelspruit Dog unit on Friday 23 August 2019.

The team followed up information of people who were being held captive inside a house in Nelspruit, Bellview Estate. The victims alleged that their captors phoned their relatives in Bangladesh and demanded ransom money for their release.

The two suspects were arrested on the premises and have been charged with trafficking in persons. They are expected back at the same court this coming Friday 30 August 2019.

Investigations are still continuing.
