Mothutlung residents wary of ANC

Community leader Paul Hendricks says President Jacob Zuma tells South Africans the party has a good story to tell 20 years into democracy, but in Mothutlung things are spiralling out of control. “We’re asking ourselves how can human beings in South Africa die for asking for water.”

Hendricks says the community believes the government is working hand-in-hand with the police and he says residents don’t trust local officers. In January Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa admitted the police used banned shotgun rounds during the protest, which could have led to the deaths of four people.
