Political reaction continues to intensify following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recent national address, with the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party issuing a pointed response on immigration policy.
Philasande Mkhize, Chief Whip of the MK Party, stated that South Africa already possesses a comprehensive legal framework governing immigration. According to Mkhize, the core challenge lies not in the absence of legislation, but in the inconsistent and inadequate enforcement of existing laws.
“South Africa has laws—rational immigration laws,” Mkhize said. “The issue we are facing is that they are not being enforced properly.”
Mkhize emphasized that immigration policy must prioritize the interests of South African citizens. He noted that while the President acknowledged the existence of these laws during his address, the MK Party believes stronger governmental commitment is required to ensure they serve the population they were designed to protect.
“The government must be one that will fight for South Africa, for our people,” Mkhize added, underscoring the party’s position that immigration enforcement should align with national economic and social priorities.
The MK Party’s remarks contribute to a growing national dialogue on border management, documentation, and the socioeconomic impact of migration—a topic that has gained renewed prominence following the President’s address to the nation.
