Minister strongly condemns the killing of two more police officers

Minister of Police Bheki Cele condemns in the strongest possible terms the attack and senseless killing of a police officer in two separate incidents in the Free State and Western Cape provinces on Thursday, 10 January 2019.

Constable Vuyani March (27) was shot and killed in the line of duty and his partner was wounded in Koffiefontein in the Free State Province and is recovering in hospital.

In a second incident two police officers were attacked during an operation, reacting on information about an illegal firearm at a shack in Siyangena informal settlement, Philippi East Western Cape.

Minister of Police Bheki Cele passes his deepest condolences to friends and family of the slayed police officer and wishes a speedy recovery to the three injured members.

“Attacking a member of the South African Police Service is an attack on the State. Safety of our men and women in blue remains high on the agenda of the SAPS and is at the heart of the SAPS’s strategic imperatives to ensure the safety of our members. Police members are a national asset and they need to be protected by all of us including members of the community” said Minister Cele.
