The education verification company, Managed Integrity Evaluation (MIE), warned that employers and especially higher education institutions should be on the lookout for people who “alter” their matric results.

Just over 144 000 of the 650 000 matriculants who passed 2017 received university admissions.

MIE disclosed through their 2017 investigation that there is an increase in cases where false or altered matric certificates are presented to employers and educational institutions.

Unemployment rates for the age group 15 to 24 are currently 38%, and the figure will increase significantly with the 500,000 new job seekers wanting to enter the workplace.
