Man gets stolen property back after violent robbery

Four house robbers, who hit their elderly victim over the head with a hammer and left him bleeding, have been arrested in Kagiso, Krugersdorp over the weekend, said police.

The four were accused of breaking into the house of a 60-year-old man in Kagiso Extension 8 on September 13, overpowering him while he was watching TV, said warrant officer Solomon Sibiya in a statement.

After attacking the home owner, they stole his TV and remote, leaving him lying bleeding on the ground.

The robbers also seized a number of pairs of shoes and takkies, worth R12 000 in total, as well as a firearm and other documents.

However, two days later, one of the apparent robbers was attacked by people in a mob justice incident at the Soul City township after apparently threatening to “shoot everyone”.

When police arrived at the scene, the man was bleeding from open wounds to the head.  A firearm found lying next to him was traced back to the victim of the house robbery.

The man then identified the whereabouts of his three accomplices in the previous robbery, leading to their arrest this weekend.

“All the stolen shoes and other property were recovered,” said Sibiya.

The four will appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
