Man arrested trying to bribe metro officers

A 33-year-old man was charged with bribery and interfering with police duties, Ekurhuleni Metro Police department (EMPD) spokesperson Lieutenant Wilfred Kgasago on Tuesday.

Kgasago said the Metro Police by-law unit members stopped a Toyota Dyna in Leeuwpoort Street in Boksburg CBD yesterday.

He said that due to the extremely poor condition of the truck, it was impounded and taken to the EMPD Boksburg pound.

“On arrival at the Boksburg offices to complete paperwork… the officers were approached by a man claiming to be a messenger of the truck owner.

“[He] produced R500 in cash and tried to bribe the officers to turn a blind eye to the offence.”

Kgasago said the man was arrested and taken to Boksburg Central police station and is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
