Man arrested after shooting ex-lover in Germiston

A 39-year-old man has been arrested following a shooting incident at a complex in Germiston that left two adults and a girl, 12, seriously wounded on Sunday morning, police said. He is believed to be an ex-lover of the woman wounded in the incident.

Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said the man, who was “known to the owner” of the flat, tried to force his way inside before firing several shots through an open window.

“He then forced open the door to gain entry into the house and fired more shots at the people inside the house.”

The female owner of the flat, aged 32, her young daughter and another man were injured. According to Netcare 911 paramedic spokesperson Chris Botha, the girl was airlifted to hospital in Alberton, while the two adults were taken to hospital by ambulance.

Mofokeng said that the man tried to flee the Monte Vista-complex, but was arrested by security guards, police and residents of the flat.

“A licensed firearm and empty magazine were seized in the process, and the firearm belonged to him.”

The arrested man is due to appear at the Germiston Regional Court on Tuesday.  He will be charged with three counts of attempted murder and domestic violence and there is a possibility of further charges being added.
