Julius Malema is the apparent kingpin after the local elections, and political parties are eagerly trying to enter a coalition. What exactly will Malema do is the question people are asking but forget the leadership of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) needs a strategy.
The current situation of the EFF will not grow unless there is a strategy and that includes the leaders. During the elections, the EFF did not appeal to the black middle class and youth. Limpopo and Polokwane were two metros where it was assumed the EFF would receive a resounding vote of confidence to govern but failed to achieve a majority vote.
The EFF is a relatively new party that has been around for three years, yet has received significant support from voters who eagerly wait for the promises of land, free food, grants, houses and so much more. It is no secret that the voters of the EFF are the disillusioned, desperate individuals who are exhausted from years of suffering.
Malema makes wild promises, exudes a childish character and communicates to the naïve who believe the outrageous declarations. No doubt Malema has a verbal skill and easily lures people with expressions of hate, enticement, and possibilities.
The EFF and in particular Malema continues with his secret war against the African National Congress (ANC) ruling party. It is no secret that Malema is seeking the removal of President Jacob Zuma and has never come to terms of being dumped by the ruling party. Now Malema is in a position to change the situation since the ANC are desperate for a coalition. No doubt, Malema will have a list of demands that the ANC will not be too happy about, but it will depend on the desperation.
Malema might not want to form a coalition with the Democratic Alliance (DA) as it would be an embarrassment for him. Malema still refers to the DA a “white party”, yet fails to grasp the reality that the whites are the minority. Malema has serious problems with white people and openly declares that the minority are the cause of all South Africa’s problems.
Malema might surprise all political parties and make a decision not to form any coalitions. A decision to plod along without the corrupt ANC or the only party that delivers, the DA, will be a noble gesture. By not forming a coalition Malema will be perceived as a sincere campaigner of his supporters.
Whatever decision Malema and the EFF make it will no doubt change the political situation in South Africa. A coalition with the ANC will be the end of the EFF and strengthen the ruling party. A decision that will keep the ANC in power for a long time, or at least until the God-fearing people realize that honesty is the best policy. The mighty ANC, with Malema placed in a dominant position, can lead to the escalation of white genocide.
