In an unprecedented move to deal a severe blow on drug dealing in the Province, the police have succeeded in arresting several people and confiscated drugs, dagga and Nyaope during sting operations around the Province.

On 5 July 2017 in the Waterval policing area outside Louis Trichardt the police arrested a 34-year-old Clinical Doctor attached to the local hospital during a tactical operation termed “Zonke 4”.

Information was followed up that led the police to a house where the doctor and his accomplice aged 27 were apprehended. The doctor was doing community service around Waterval area. The following were confiscated during the arrest:

• 9 sachets of Nyaope
• 4 rocks (hard drugs)
• 2 Smoking pipes
• 1 plastic bag containing dagga

The value and weight will be determined soon.

In another related success, the police in Lebowakgomo outside Polokwane arrested a 28-year-old suspect for dealing in drugs and the following were confiscated:

• 297 rock drugs valued at R14850.00
• R1 302.00 in cash

In Good Mahwelereng cluster, the police also focusing on Operation “Zonke 4”, arrested four suspects aged between 27 and 54 for dealing and possession of dagga. A total of 111 sachets of dagga were confiscated with the street value of R2220.00 and cash amount of R3000.00.

These operations will be conducted continuously to rid the affected areas of this scourge.

The arrested suspects will soon appear in different courts on charges of possession and dealing in drugs.
