The SAPS in Vuwani is investigating a murder case following a mob justice incident that took place at Hamangilasi village, Vhembe District, on Wednesday, 22 November 2023 at about 18:00.
It is reported that, on the said date, the community brutally assaulted a man who was suspected of stealing a cellphone belonging to a scholar, and the student screamed for assistance. The community then mobilized, chased the victim, and assaulted him. Upon noticing the police, they fled the scene. The victim was unconscious when the police arrived.
Emergency personnel were called, and upon arrival, they certified the victim dead on the scene. He was identified as Mukwevho Thomas (30).
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has strongly condemned this barbaric attack and has ordered an immediate investigation into the matter.
