Two suspects, aged 39 and 53 were arrested on Monday, 18 March 2019, in Vuwani following a violent protest that erupted at Tshino village on Sunday, 17 March 2019. The Residents in the area went on a rampage at around 19:00, by blocking the roads and ultimately torched eight houses.

The motive for the violence is not clear at this stage.

The Public Order Police members were since deployed in the affected area to quell the violence and two suspects have been arrested so far.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has condemned the violent protest in the strongest possible terms.

The situation in the area has now returned to normal but POPs members are still monitoring. Meanwhile police investigators are continuing to trace more possible suspects. The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Vuwani Magistrate court soon on charges of public violence and arson.
