The Thohoyandou Regional Court have sentenced a 34 year old man to an effective life imprisonment for raping his niece during an incident which occurred on 29 July 2016 in the early hours of the morning.
The 11 year old victim was busy preparing herself to go to school and while she was about to put on her school shoes as she was already in her uniform, her ruthless uncle emerged and raped her.
The brave child escaped wearing only one shoe with her uniform to school and explained everything to the teachers who immediately reported the ordeal to the Police and the accused was then arrested.
The accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The SAPS Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba has applauded the Thohoyandou Cluster Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for the job well done and he further encouraged them to keep up the good work as it will never pass unnoticed.
