LIMPOPO – Authorities in Limpopo have arrested two suspects following the discovery of the body of 42-year-old Jesaya Masha, who was initially reported missing from the Sekhukhune District. The victim’s remains were recovered from Arabie Dam in the Elandskraal policing area, marking a significant breakthrough in a case that rapidly evolved from a missing persons inquiry into a homicide investigation.
Masha was reported missing by his family after he allegedly departed his residence in Ga-Masha Village on Sunday, 16 August 2026, at approximately 17:39. He was traveling in a blue Hyundai motor vehicle at the time. Following the report, law enforcement circulated details regarding his disappearance and the vehicle to aid in the search efforts.
The investigation progressed significantly when investigators received intelligence indicating that the missing man’s vehicle had allegedly been sold to a member of the public. The vehicle was subsequently surrendered to law enforcement for forensic examination. Acting on this lead, members of the Nebo Jane Furse Tracking Team, alongside Nebo and Sekhukhune Detectives and the Sekhukhune Flying Squad, tracked down and arrested a 32-year-old suspect in Jane Furse on Friday, 21 August 2026.
During ongoing inquiries, police obtained information suggesting that Masha had been kidnapped and murdered, with his body disposed of in Arabie Dam. In response, a multidisciplinary operational team was rapidly mobilized. On Saturday, 22 August 2026, this team, supported by the SAPS Water Wing and Emergency Medical Services, executed an extensive search operation near the bridge at Arabie Dam. The search successfully yielded the discovery of the victim’s body, which was found in an advanced state of decomposition.
The momentum of the investigation led to the apprehension of a second suspect, aged 27, in Jane Furse on the morning of Sunday, 23 August 2026. Both individuals are slated to face formal charges of kidnapping, murder, and defeating the ends of justice. They are expected to make their initial appearance before the Sekhukhune and Groblersdal Magistrate’s Courts in the near future.
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, publicly commended the investigating officers and all participating role players. He highlighted their swift response, persistence, and highly coordinated efforts as instrumental in both the recovery of the victim’s remains and the apprehension of the suspects.
Law enforcement officials have noted that the investigation remains active, and they cannot rule out the possibility of additional arrests as the case unfolds.
