The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the life sentence that was handed down by the High Court in Thohoyandou on Tuesday 31 May 2022 against Jerry Fanani Hlungwani aged 33 after he was found guilty of stabbing Dankie Ngobeni to death with a knife.
The trial court found that on Saturday, 22 August 2020 at about 22:00, the accused started accusing the victim of having an affair with his girlfriend. He also accused him of taking over his potential clients as they were both builders.
After a heated argument, he then produced a knife and stabbed the victim who died at the scene. The incident happened at Mishiyani village outside Giyani. The victim was 44 at the time.
The case Murder was assigned to Detective Sergeant Ocean Jim Makondo of Giyani Saps Detective.
Meanwhile, on the same date, the High Court in Polokwane sentenced another accused, Kwena Estoph Mphela aged 32 to fifteen (15) years imprisonment after he was found guilty of killing his girlfriend Kgothatso Pule aged 27 and buried her body in the yard of his parents’ premises at Ga-Setati village on 2 January 2020.
The accused was further sentenced to two years imprisonment for obstructing the course of justice which will run concurrently with the initial sentence.
The victim went missing after she visited her boyfriend. The missing person file was then investigated by the Provincial Tracking Team which was later changed to kidnapping. After the discovery of the body, the case of murder was then opened and was investigated by Sergeant Mokhepo Vivian Gafane of the Provincial Investigation Unit.
