The SAPS Management have welcomed the lengthy jail terms given to two criminals on separate incidents of rapes and a murder which is another milestone achievement in the fight against contact crimes and the sexual offences crimes head-on.

In the Mankweng policing area outside Polokwane, Tshidi Motsela (25) from Nobody village was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Mankweng Regional Court for the rape incident which occurred during October 2015 in the evening when the accused attacked and raped a 17-year-old girl.

After he was sentenced, Tshidi escaped from lawful custody while en-route to Modimolle prison on the 04 July 2017, but the police reacted swiftly and followed him until he was re-arrested in the early hours of today.

He appeared before the Mankweng Magistrates’ Court today and was immediately sentenced to an additional 6 months imprisonment without a fine for escaping from lawful custody.

Meanwhile in the Lephalae policing area, Levy Nkeru Masenya (34) was sentenced to two life imprisonment for rape and murder by the Regional Court in Lephalale.

This incident took place in the bushes along Beauty and Vaalwater gravel road in the Witpoort policing area on the 18 May 2014 at about 19:00 when the accused attacked Mokgadi Agner Madidimalo (41) while she was on the way from the church in Ga-Seleka village to her place of employment in Ongerep farm.

He attacked and dragged her to the bushes where he raped her and further chopped her with a sharp object to death, he fled the scene. The police was summoned and reacted swiftly and ultimately started with their in-depth investigations until the accused was arrested.

The SAPS Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Nneke Jim Ledwaba has applauded the team of Detectives who were involved in the investigations of these two incidents which shows the professional and dedicated performance by the police to our communities in the fight against crime consistently.

We hope that these sentences will serve as a deterrent to all the rapists and murderers out there for them to stop targeting our woman, otherwise, the long arm of the law will deal with them mercilessly and without compromise, concluded General Ledwaba.
