Two suspects aged 24 and 28 respectively, were arrested yesterday by police for defrauding unsuspecting victims of thousands of rands.
The suspects were pretending to be SARS employees, obtained CV’s from job seekers and thereafter telling them that they have been successful.
They would then demand money from the victims, telling them it’s for uniform and an employee ID card. On face value, the cards which have photos and IDs of potential employees, appear authentic as they bear the SARS emblem/logo. The uniform; a T-shirt also has the similar SARS emblem embroidered on it.
People were defrauded of cash amounts between R2 500 and R3 000.
Police managed to confiscate these fraudulent cards and Uniform from their bogus office in the CBD.
Preliminary investigations confirmed that the duo are not employed by SARS. One of the suspects was however once an intern at SARS in 2012.
The suspects will appear in Polokwane Magistate’s Court on Monday 19-12-2016 on a charge of fraud.
