The Police in Makhado outside Thohoyandou, have intercepted a rhino poaching syndicate during an Intelligent Led Operation at Ekland Game Farm outside Louis Trichardt.
It is alleged that yesterday, 1 May 2017, two suspected rhino poachers entered the farm where they were immediately apprehended by Police. Members were already awaiting the suspects after receiving information about their intended activities of rhino poaching. A shooting ensued between the Police and the suspects. One suspect was shot and wounded and the second suspect was arrested. None of the Police Officers was injured.
Two cases of rhino poaching and attempted murder were opened against the suspects and Police investigations are still continuing.
During this operation, the following were recovered:
* 01 x hunting rifle.
* 10 x round of ammunition.
* 03 x hunting knives.
* Ford Ranger.
The suspects will appear before the Louis Trichardt Magistrate Court soon.
