Criminals have been warned to tread carefully when they set foot in Modimolle. It has been established that the Community Policing Forum (CFP) have of late achieved several successful operations.

The CPF sector 2, which looks after the town’s safety, recovered a golden Citi Golf, within an hour, on Thursday, June 30, which was stolen from behind Absa.

“The police were informed of the theft and started patrolling. We first covered the country roads, and the thieves realized it and turned back to town. They were arrested near the old cemetery, but they jumped out and ran away, “said Koos Pretorius, chairperson of sector 2.

The group also frustrated two burglaries over the past few weeks, and bike thieves were arrested at the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home. “We are grateful for the cooperation with the Modimolle police,” he said.

One of the members of the CPF in sector 3, serving the farms in the area, was injured after a truck with stolen with steel on Friday, April 22.

Johan le Roux and Willie Booyse spotted the suspicious truck in the middle of the night traveling on the gravel road at Elandsfontein near Donkerpoort to the town and followed.

One of the CPF members jumped on the truck and saw that there was stolen steel at the back.

The truck driver was speeding in the direction of Mookgophong. The driver came to a standstill near the ramp to the highway, with two CPF members in pursuit and who immediately stopped behind the truck.

“Just when Johan got out, the truck moved backward quite fast and hit the bakkie. Johan’s foot was still on the petrol pedal and jammed, he was dragged for about 50 m, ” Barend of the CPF said. “He hit his head against the tarmac and cracked two ribs. If his foot was not caught in the pedal, he would have fallen under the heavy truck wheels.

The truck’s occupants jumped out and ran into the trees. There is apparently about R35 000 damage to his vehicle. The police have identified that the truck was stolen some time back and that the license and number plates are forged. The police are trying to locate the owner of the truck.
