On Wednesday 04 October 2023 at about 13:20, three armed robbery suspects reportedly lost their lives during a high speed car chase with the police’ that took place at Mushiru village under Tshaulu Policing precinct.
Preliminary investigations revealed that four suspects were driving from Mhinga village after committing an armed robbery in the area and were reportedly being pursued by the Saselamani Crime Prevention members after receiving information about the robbery.
It is reported that the suspects were busy firing shots at the Police’ during car chase and one of them reportedly disposed of a firearm from the black Hyundai motor vehicle while in motion.
While driving towards Mushiru village, the driver apparently lost control of the motor vehicle that overturned several times resulting in all four suspects in their thirties being thrown out of the vehicle.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were summoned to the scene and three suspects were declared dead upon arrival at the scene and an undisclosed amount of cash was also discovered inside the motor vehicle.
In addition, one firearm believed to have been utilized during the commission of the crime was found a few kilometres away from the accident scene.
The sole survivor of the suspects was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment and is currently admitted with severe injuries while under police guard.
The suspect will appear in court soon once he recovers from his injuries.
The deceased were positively identified at the scene and their identifications will be revealed soon upon further police investigations.
