An Intelligence led joint operation, comprised of members from the Thohoyandou Cluster Task Team, Crime Intelligence, the Tactical Response Team (TRT), SAPS Thohoyandou Crime Prevention, Detectives and SAPS Malamulele Crime Prevention, resulted in the arrest of four suspects aged between 26 and 33 soon after they committed a business robbery in the Thohoyandou CBD.

In the process of this operation, three motor vehicles, R5 rifle, magazine, ammunition and cash amount of money were recovered.

It is alleged that a group of heavily armed suspects robbed the local cash loan company at the Thohoyandou CBD on Monday 2 September 2019, before they fled the scene. The Police were immediately notified and reacted swiftly. A manhunt by SAPS members ensued around the clock until one of the suspects, a 25-year-old woman, was found and arrested in possession of a R5 rifle.

The suspect’s husband (26) was found in possession of a huge undisclosed amount of cash believed to be part of the money robbed during this incident. He was immediately arrested.

As the operation continued last night, 3 September 2019, two more suspects aged 29 and 30 were arrested at a village outside Thohoyandou and they were positively linked to this incident. These suspects were linked to 15 cases of business robberies which they committed in the Thohoyandou Policing area in the past three months.

Preliminary Police investigations have further revealed that these suspects may be linked to a series of business robberies in the Thohoyandou, Giyani, Musina, Malamulele and Makhado Clusters.

The suspects will appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate Court soon.

The Police investigations are still continuing.
