Six accused aged between 26 and 40 years were handed down hefty sentences by various magistrate courts on Friday, 4 December facing theft of motor vehicle and possession of endangered species charges.

Tshisikhawe Ndivhuwo aged 26 and Azwindini Ramusibili aged 35 were each sentenced to five years imprisonment without an option of fine by the Thohoyandou magistrate court for theft of motor vehicle that happened on 10 April 2016 at Lwamondo, Lukau village.

The 48 year old owner of a Toyota Hilux bakkie parked his vehicle inside the garage and locked the main gate before he went to sleep.

Suddenly, he was awaken by his dog barking and went outside to investigate and discovered that his motor vehicle was stolen. The suspects cut the fence and pushed the vehicle out of the garage and drove off with it.

Theft of motor case was opened at Thohoyandou Police Station and transferred to the Vehicle Investigation Unit (VCIU) for further investigations which led to the arrest of the duo within a short space of time. The vehicle was later recovered abandoned at Mapate, Migeroni village and handed back to the lawful owner.

The accused were granted R1500-00 bail and made several court appearances before their sentencing on Friday, 4 December 2020.
