The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has warned that dishonest and corrupt officials will suffer the consequences of their criminal conduct.

This after a 47-year-old Police officer attached at SAPS Rust de Winter made an appearance in the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on 6 July 2023.

Warrant Officer Matshidiso Virginia Sealetsa was granted R3000-00 bail upon appearance before the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court facing charges of theft.

She will appear again on 1 August 2023 while police investigations continue.

The suspect was arrested on Wednesday 5 July 2023.

It is alleged that between 30 September 2022 and 24 February 2023, Warrant Officer Sealetsa, performing her duty as a Visible Policing Commander, was tasked with the collection of bail monies, traffic fines and admission of guilt fines from the Community Service Centre to deliver to Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court.

It is reported that the Warrant Officer failed to deliver the monies to the clerk of court to deposit and instead she allegedly used the money for her personal gain.

A suspicion was raised during inspection when the receipts were not attached on fourteen occasions, amounting to over R29 000-00. Twenty nine thousand rands.

This prompted the management to conduct a thorough investigation which culminated in the arrest of the suspect yesterday.

“The arrest of the suspect will serve as warning that corrupt employees will be rooted out and be dealt with accordingly”, said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
