South African Police Service

The South African Police Service in Modimolle under the Waterberg District are on a massive manhunt for the suspects involved in the murder and attempted murder after a taxi operator was shot and killed on 2 December 2020, at about 10:30 at the One Stop garage near the Kranskop Toll gate, along the N1 South.

It is reported that the deceased was driving a minibus taxi that was travelling from Polokwane to Gauteng Province and when he stopped at this garage, the driver and passengers allegedly alighted from the vehicle and went inside the garage kiosk shop. Suddenly, when they returned to the vehicle, two unknown suspects emerged and started to shoot at the taxi operator with a pistol and rifle.

Afterwards, the suspects fled the scene driving a red Volkswagen Polo sedan with unknown registration numbers. The taxi operator was declared dead at the scene by the paramedics and one female passenger suffered gunshot wounds and she was treated at the scene.

The identity of the deceased will be revealed once his family is notified. The Police were notified and reacted swiftly, the initial investigations and manhunt ensued but there is no arrest yet.

The motive behind this incident is not clear at this stage but the taxi related conflict may not be ruled out.

Anyone with information that can lead to apprehension of the suspects involved in this matter, may contact Lieutenant Colonel Richard Boshomane at 079 894 5501 or the crime stop number 0860010111 or the nearest Police Station or MySAPS App.

The police investigations are still continuing.
