The National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, General Khehla John Sitole has commended the Limpopo police on the arrest of five suspects who had allegedly just committed a cash-in-transit robbery at a filling station near Capricorn Plaza on the N1 Road on the morning of 20 October 2020.
It is alleged that an unknown number of suspects attacked and robbed security guards collecting money at the filling station and fled the scene. The police were notified of the incident and a manhunt for the suspects commenced.
A few kilometres from the crime scene, at Tshilwavhusikhu outside Louis Trichardt, the police spotted one of the suspects’ getaway vehicle and subsequently arrested five suspects aged between 33 and 38.
During the arrest, the police recovered one vehicle, five firearms and ammunition as well as an undisclosed amount of money.
The arrested suspects will appear in the Louis Trichardt Magistrates Court soon on charges of armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
