Suspects arrested who are believed to be involved in a spate of robberies in Sekhukhune District

A targeted, intelligence driven joint operation conducted by members of the Burgersfort Detectives and the Public Order Policing (POP) Unit has led to the arrest of two suspects believed to be involved in a series of house robberies that have affected the Sekhukhune District in the recent months.

The operation, aimed at apprehending suspects reportedly in possession of unlicensed firearms used during recent robberies, commenced last night until the early hours of Wednesday, 23 April 2025.

The first breakthrough was made on Tuesday night, when a 28-year-old male suspect was traced to a rented property within the Sekhukhune policing area. A search of the premises led to the recovery of various items, including multiple cellphones, a printer, a laptop, two pellet guns, a plasma TV, housebreaking tools, and clothing believed to have been stolen during a house robbery that took place earlier this month in Burgersfort. The robbery reportedly involved the use of the pellet guns.

The operation continued into the early hours of Wednesday, 23 April 2025, when a second suspect, aged 42, was apprehended at his home in Mahlakwena village. During the arrest, police recovered various types of explosives suspected to have been stolen from the Tweefontein Mine, where the suspect was previously employed before his dismissal in March 2025.

Both suspects were detained at Burgersfort SAPS and now face charges of possession of suspected stolen property, and possession of illegal explosives. They are expected to appear before the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 24 April 2025.

Acting Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Major General Samuel Manala, praised the success of the operation and the dedication of the officers involved.

“This is a shining example of the outstanding work our members are capable of when intelligence is effectively utilised and partnerships are strengthened. The successful apprehension of these suspects is a significant step towards restoring safety and peace in our communities. I applaud the team for their professionalism, vigilance, and dedication to duty,” said Major General Manala.

Investigations are ongoing, and further arrests may follow as police intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the area.
