
Police in the Capricorn District have arrested a 55-year-old man in connection with the murder of a 61-year-old villager in Ga-Mongoa this past weekend.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, 05 October 2025. According to preliminary police reports, the deceased had visited the Mashashane Police Station to open a case of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH). He reported that at approximately 15:00 that day, while walking home from a local tavern, he was attacked by a man known to him, who allegedly hacked him several times with a sharp object.
The victim, who had sustained multiple injuries from the attack, was rushed to a hospital for medical treatment. However, he later succumbed to his injuries. As a result, the initial case of assault GBH was converted to a murder investigation.
Following an intensive investigation, police traced and apprehended the 55-year-old suspect on Tuesday, 07 October 2025, at around 18:00.
The motive behind the brutal attack is currently unknown and remains a subject of the ongoing investigation.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court in the near future to face a formal charge of murder. Police investigations are continuing.
