Suspect dies as victim opens fire, Cycad Mall, Polokwane

The South African Police Service in Polokwane are investigating the fatal shooting which occurred this morning, 19 November 2018, in the city of Polokwane. It is alleged that an unknown man believed to be a suspect involved in this incident, was fatally wounded at Cycad Mall at about 09:00 following an incident where a 58 year old man alighted from his motor vehicle to go and deposit money at one of the local ATMs.

While walking towards the ATM, he saw the suspect running away from his motor vehicle with his bag towards the getaway vehicle with four occupants inside and he gave chase on foot.

In the process, he ordered the suspect to stop but he continued running until he fired some shots towards the alleged suspect who died instantly. The Police were notified, reacted swiftly and started with the crime scene investigations where an unknown man around thirties was found lying on the ground with gunshot wounds and he was certified dead at the scene.

The stolen bag was recovered with some the contents including cell phones and an undisclosed amount of cash. Cases of theft out of motor vehicle and inquest were opened for further Police investigations.

The police have since launched a manhunt for the remaining four unknown suspects driving in a Silver Toyota Corolla with unknown registration numbers.
