LIMPOPO – A suspected stolen vehicle smuggling syndicate kingpin aged 55 was arrested and is expected to appear in the Musina Magistrates’ Court today, 04 August 2023. This follows his arrest during the operational takedown led by the Limpopo Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation assisted by Serious Corruption Investigation, Limpopo Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s Tracking Team and Crime Intelligence on 3 August 2023.

During 2017, a lot of stolen vehicles from Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and other provinces, particularly 4×4s and SUVs were intercepted by the police before they could be smuggled into Zimbabwe through the Limpopo River. A project driven investigation dubbed “VENNICE” was pursued with the aim of addressing the smuggling syndicate involved in moving of the stolen vehicles out of the country.

After conducting a thorough and meticulous investigation, the warrant of arrest was authorized against the suspect. The takedown operation was conducted and it resulted in the arrest of the kingpin suspect at Kempton Park in Gauteng province.

More arrests emanating from project “VENNICE” are imminent.
