A 36-year-old stepfather has been sentenced to two life terms of imprisonment for the rape and sexual assault of his 15-year-old stepson, a conviction the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo has commended.
The Groblersdal Regional Court handed down the sentence on Tuesday, 24 March 2026. The accused was found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
According to police reports, the abuse began in 2019 at the Masakaneng Informal Settlement under Groblersdal, where the stepfather was living with the victim and the victim’s mother. The stepfather would often return home drunk and molest the minor. The abuse subsequently escalated to rape, during which the stepfather forced himself on the victim and directed degrading remarks at him.
The ordeal continued for four years. In 2024, the victim disclosed the abuse to his mother, who immediately reported the matter to police.
The accused was arrested on 11 October 2024 at his workplace on a local farm by members of the Groblersdal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. Warrant Officer Victoria Lekgala Phala was assigned to the case.
The accused made multiple court appearances and was granted bail before being convicted.
The court sentenced the accused to two life terms for rape and five years’ imprisonment for sexual assault. The court also declared the accused unfit to possess a firearm.
