Steelpoort CIT robbery: Police officer arrested with four AK47’s and cash

On Monday 28 September 2020, at about 17:30 a group of armed men attacked a Fidelity cash van on R555 outside Steelpoort, near Burgersfort, in the Limpopo province of South Africa. Explosives were used to open and undisclosed amount of money was stolen. Crime intelligence then activated operational team to track and arrest suspects.

The operational team managed to arrest two suspects aged 32 and 28 in Polokwane. The suspects were found with a Kudu horn with muti. The suspects said they used the horn to blow so that during the CIT robbery the attackers can evade arrest.

The team then followed up on other suspects at a safe house in Lebowakgomo Zone F. On arrival a shootout ensued and one suspect was arrested with injuries. The other suspects managed to flee into darkness of the night.

In the house members arrested 36 year old police officer, a constable, who is attached to the Pretoria Moot detectives. During his arrest, in his car, 4 Ak47 Rifles and undisclosed amount of money was recovered. There was also Mercedes Benz which was reported hijacked in Tsakane.

4 x AK47 Rifles
1x R5 rifle.
1 x R4 rifle
1 x Dash prod rifle.
3 x Vehicle BMW 1 series.
1 Mercedes Benz E class.
1 Toyota Quantum.
And an undisclosed amount of money.

More arrest will follow. Members involved included the Polokwane Airwing, Limpopo tracking team, Pretoria central TRT, Ekurhuleni TRT, SLEU (Gauteng traffic police) and the Limpopo Highway patrol.
