The Mpumalanga and Limpopo Tracking Teams conducted their ongoing crime intelligence driven operation to trace suspects who robbed a vehicle transporting tobacco in Mankweng area, Limpopo province. Six suspects were arrested within 24 hours of the robbery.

On 27 June 2018, the complainant, a driver of the vehicle transporting cigarettes alleged that just before 11:00 the same day, he was robbed while offloading cigarettes just outside Mankweng. He said that he was forced into a grey sedan at gunpoint. The suspects drove off with him and he was dropped at a village called Nchichane.

The team followed up on intelligence and traced the getaway vehicle to the R573 Road within hours of the alleged robbery. The driver, who was alone in the car was arrested and preliminary investigations led the police to Matlerekeng village where they arrested three suspects and confiscated more than R450 000 in cash and the vehicle. Another suspect was arrested in Groblersdal while the sixth suspect was arrested in Mamelodi, Gauteng, during the early hours of this morning, 28 June 2018.

The docket has been transferred to the Limpopo Task Team for further investigations.

The six suspects will be appearing in the Mankweng Magistrates Court tomorrow facing armed robbery charges.
