Seven suspects arrested for possession of suspected precious metals and possession of unlicensed firearm

The Members of SAPS Limpopo Provincial Vispol Task Team, Malamulele Crime Intelligence and Public Order Policing arrested seven suspects in Malamulele aged between 27 and 46 for possession of suspected precious metals and possession of unlicensed firearm during an operation conducted in the early hours, Saturday, 13 April 2024.

The members on operation noticed suspicious movements of a Toyota Quantum, at a local fuel station in Malamulele. They tactically approached it, some of the suspects pretended that the vehicle had a mechanical problem and they were pushing it.

The Police searched the vehicle and discovered some suspected precious metals in 06 (six) bags and in the process one of them dropped a firearm.

The 07 (seven) suspects were immediately arrested for possession of suspected precious metals and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the operational team and appreciated them for arresting the suspects and recovering of the illegal firearm. “Firearms are used mostly to commit serious and violent crimes. It is therefore important that firearms are confiscated from the hands of criminals to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our communities,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear before Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 15 April 2024.

The Police investigations are ongoing.
