LIMPOPO — Provincial authorities have confirmed that a Seshego grandfather arrested earlier this week is now facing severe charges after allegedly preying on two young girls within his own household. The 74-year-old suspect was taken into custody following allegations that he sexually assaulted two minor relatives, aged just 5 and 8.

According to police reports, the harrowing incidents took place separately earlier in 2026. The suspect, who shared a residence with his victims, was apprehended at his home on the evening of Monday, August 3, 2026, following a targeted probe by local authorities.

Following the arrest, the case docket was immediately transferred to the specialized Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in Seshego to facilitate an advanced and thorough investigation.

Addressing the public, Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers expressed profound outrage over the allegations, condemning the actions of the suspect in the strongest possible terms.

“It is deeply disturbing that a person entrusted with the care and protection of a child could instead become the source of their harm,” Lt. Gen. Scheepers stated. He reassured the community that the provincial police are fully committed to securing justice for the victims and their family. “We will ensure that this matter is thoroughly investigated… SAPS Limpopo remains committed to protecting our children and will not relent in our fight against crimes targeting the most vulnerable members of our society.”

Police investigations into the matter remain active and ongoing. The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, August 6, 2026, where he will formally answer to the charges of rape.
