The South African Police Service in Limpopo has warmly welcomed the long term incarceration imposed on one of the serial rapists in the Province. The Polokwane High Court has sentenced Khomotso Matsatsa Khosa aged 22 years old to an effective two life imprisonments plus 16 years imprisonment for rape.
Khosa who hails from Ga-Chuene village in the Thokgoaneng area outside Lebowakgomo, raped three women aged between 21 and 22 years. He committed these heinous acts in the Chuene Game Resort area outside Polokwane during his reign of terror last year between 6 and 12 January 2017 respectively.
The accused used the same modus operandi where he would target vulnerable women who were unemployed and desperate for work. Ultimately Khosa would take them to a secluded area of the bushes inside the resort where he would threaten them before raping them.
The first incident occurred on the 6 January 2017 at about 16:45 where a 22 year old woman from Lenting village outside Lebowakgomo receiving a phone call from her boyfriend to go to the Chuene Game Resort in order to collect money from his cousin. On her arrival at the gate, she met an unknown man who identified himself as a cousin to her boyfriend.
Khosa took her to the bushes at the back of the resort. Afterwards, he started to pretend to be a Satanist and took out a large animal bone whilst talking to it about her assassination if she does not comply with his instructions, unfortunately, she got scared and was repeatedly raped by the suspect.
The last ordeal took place on the 12th January 2017, the accused managed to rape two women aged 21 and 22, who are cousins in one day at different locations at the same resort utilising the same Modus Operandi.
The first victim aged 21 received an urgent unknown WhatsApp message about being appointed as a security officer at about 06:55 am. She complied with the message and was also repeatedly raped. Second victim aged 22 also received a WhatsApp message about her appointment as a photographer.
These incidents where ultimately reported to the Police and a joint Task Team was established composed of the Lebowakgomo Detectives and the Polokwane Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) which led to the apprehension of the accused. The Saps Provincial Commissioner Lt. General Nneke Ledwaba expressed his delight from professional efforts made by the Police and he stressed that these sentences will be an epitome to all those who find themselves on the wrong side of the law.
“I really hope that this incarceration from barbaric acts will bring a relief to members of the community especially woman in the Province because he will no longer be associated with the society forever”, concluded General Ledwaba.
