The Members of Provincial Illegal Mining Task Team and Provincial Organized Crime Investigation unit arrested a 35-year-old male suspect after an alert about illegal mining activities that were in progress at Winterveld farm in Mahlakwena Mountain, on Thursday, 11 May 2023.

The Police immediately followed up on the information and upon arrival at the scene they found a white Hino 700 tipper truck half loaded with minerals and tactically pounced on the driver for illegal mining and transportation of suspected stolen minerals.

The Police confiscated, concentrated mineral soil, and illegal mining equipment that consisted of one White Hino 700 tipper truck, one Yellow supersonic generator, two Ryobi jackhammers, two Shovels, and one Spade valued at R1 524 300.00.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the relentless efforts by the police in their fight against the illegal mining activities that are persistently spreading in the Sekhukhune District.

“We appreciate the valuable information being provided and we reaffirm that we will stop at nothing to rid the Province of illegal mining activities”. Concluded General Hadebe.
