Members of the South African Police Service Search and Rescue Unit were on 17 March 2018, called to a scene of a drowning at Molepo dam in the Mankweng Cluster outside Polokwane.

It is alleged that a 37 year old deceased was part of a group of people who attended a gathering that was organized in the area adjacent to the dam when he decided to go for swimming.

When he did not return, the other people attending the rally tried in vain to assist the man. Members of the Police Search and Rescue Team were summoned and managed to retrieve the body.

The deceased was identified as Happiness Gololo from ga-Chuene village outside Lebowakgomo.

The police have since opened an inquest case to investigate the circumstances that led to the incident.
