A concerted effort by a well coordinated task team of Police Units in the Province to fight illegal poaching continue to yield positive results.

This is after members of Phalaborwa Crime Intelligence jointly with members of the National Intervention Unit at around 20:30 conducted an intelligence led Joint Operation around the Giyani Cluster and successfully managed to dismantle a rhino poaching syndicate in the Namakgale Policing area outside Phalaborwa.

Four suspects aged between 34 and 50 were put behind bars. During the arrest the following were confiscated: a motor vehicle, Two rhino horns.

The suspects have since appeared before the Phalaborwa Magistrates’ Court on charges of illegal hunting and possession of rhino horns and the cases were postponed until 21 February 2018, with no bail for further police investigations and for bail application.

The arrested suspects were identified as follows: Solly Kubayi aged 40 years from Mashishimale village near Phalaborwa, Jafta Sekgobela aged 50 years from Namakgale in the Longtill section near Phalaborwa, Andrew Mathebula aged 35 from Mashishimale village near Phalaborwa and Moses Mashito aged 45 years from Mashishimale near Phalaborwa.

The police investigations in this matter are still continuing.
