The police in Thohoyandou have today, 25 February 2020 discovered another child who is also the victim of rape allegedly committed by a 43 year old suspect who went on a raping spree, targeting minor children at Tswinga Gotha village.
The police received and acted on the information that the sixth rape victim aged 7, has been hospitalised following the rape that was allegedly committed by the same man.
Preliminary police investigation revealed that the latest victim was noticed by her mother on Sunday, 23 February 2020 who became suspicious that something bad might have happened to her child and took her to the hospital. Her suspicion became a reality when the rape was confirmed and the child hospitalized.
The accused, Gabriel Mashavhathakha has already appeared in Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on 24 February 2020 on five counts of raping minor children aged between 4 and 10 and was remanded in custody until 29 June 2020.
Another count of rape has already been added following the latest discovery of the sixth victim.
