The hard work of a dedicated and professional team from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit has once again acquired a long prison term when a 28 year old Naville Phadima Koma was this week slapped with a life imprisonment sentence for rape by the Burgersfort Regional Court.

This long jail term emanates from a rape incident which occurred during November 2015 at about 18:00 at Ditwebeleng village in the Mecklenburg policing area outside Burgersfort where he repeatedly raped an 11 year old girl.

The accused lured the victim into his friend’s home where the gruesome ordeal occurred.

The police were notified and thorough police investigations ensued where the dots led to the arrest of this accused.

The SAPS Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba has expressed his joy and gratitude and said, this sentence urge’s very well for the South African Police Service in this Province which gives prudence that the dedication and relentless pursuit of the case by this Unit, resulted in this marathon and tough sentence.

I want to applaud the Burgersfort Cluster FCS on the outstanding investigative skills they have discharged and on the job well done. We congratulate and urge them to continue to do more in their endeavor to fight any form of sexual related crimes which affect our women and children so severely, concluded General Ledwaba.
